"And the apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith""- Luke 17:5
A wise man once said: 'The living faith is the acting faith; and the acting faith is the winning faith".
It is striking to hear the response of the Lord Jesus to the request of the Apostles for an increase in faith. It was a very good and noble thing that they were asking for.
Here is the Lord Jesus' response to them:
"So the Lord said, "If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,' and it would obey you."- Luke 17:6
The lesson here is not the lack of faith or the little faith of the apostles, but the need to activate their faith.
Our faith will remain dormant unless we activate it. We have to declare a thing before we can see the manifestation of what has been decreed. If we keep our mouth shut, and refuse to act on the Word of God, there will be no manifestion.
You see, faith is not dormant neither is it lifeless. It is a living, active, dynamic and powerful force.
"Thou shall also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee:"- Job 22:28
We know that our faith will be incapacitated without works. The proof of our faith is in the steps we take, words we speak and through our actions.
The woman with the issue of blood activated her faith by pressing through to touch Jesus. Peter walked on water because he reached out and acted in obedience to the Word of the master. Paul commanded blindness on Elymas the sorcerer by releasing the Word of the Lord in his mouth (see Acts 13:8-11).
It is through the activitation of our faith that we can obtain good report and obtain the promise. We all have a measure of faith.
"...as God has allotted to each a measure of faith"- Romans 12:3
Let us therefore arise from our slumber and put our faith to work and the Lord will watch over His Word to perform it. The Lord will work in us, through us and with us by confirming His Word with signs and wonders following- Amen!
"And they went forth and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, confirming the Word with signs following"- Mark 16:20
