The Blessing of Obedience
This piece is a continuation of the Series on Obedience.
If they listen and obey God, they will be blessed with prosperity throughout their lives. All their years will be pleasant.- Job 36:11
Obedience does most certainly carry its rewards with it. In obedience lies yours and mine rewards in life. Obedience is one of those eternal virtues that pleases, delights and touches so profoundly the heart of the one being obeyed.
Be it in a father-son relationship, parent-child relationship, employer-employee relationship, king-subjects relationship, master-servant relationship, leader-surbordinate relationship, God-man relationship; obedience greatly delights the heart and brings with it attendant blessings.
If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best from the land;- Isaiah 1:19
Just as obedience carries with it unfathomable blessings, likewise disobedience carries with it dire consequences; let us watch out therefore, so that we do not fall into the trap of disobedience.
But if they do not obey, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge.- Job 36:12
Jesus- Our perfect example obeyed and will-fully complied with the will of God the Father. And God highly exalted Him to a place of honour on His right hand in glory. God also gave Jesus a name that is higher than every other name.
God the Father found great pleasure in Jesus because Jesus' only delight and agenda was to do the will and pleasure of the Father, to obey the Father and fulfil God's work. Therefore God was always with Him, God never left or forsook Him even when all His friends and disciples left Him during the hours of His passion- arrest, suffering and cruxificion.
And He Who sent Me is ever with Me; My Father has not left Me alone, for I always do what pleases Him.- John 8:29
For this [reason] the Father loves Me, because I lay down My [own] life to take it back again. ...These are the instructions (orders) which I have received [as My charge] from My Father.- John 10:17-18
The book of Deuteronomy Chapter 28, clearly and expressly chronicles both the blessings of obedience to God and the dire consequences of disobedience to God. This write-up is focused on the blessings of obedience, please do take time to read up Deuteronomy 28.
God has promised innumerable blessings upon us if only we diligently listen to and obey His instructions. And God's instructions are not hurtful or burdensome to us. The blessings are there, sure and real; but they would be the result, reward, benefit and outcome of our obedience to God.
The choice is yours, to follow after obedience to the Lord with its attendant blessings or opt for disobedience with its dire consequences. As for me, I choose to listen to, and obey the Lord my God.
