I love the slogan of this Games: "One World One Dream"
The biggest sporting event in the world got underway yesterday with the biggest display ever at the spectacular Bird's Nest Stadium in Beijing, China. The Olympics which comes around once in every four-year got off to a carnival-like atmosphere, electrifying fireworks, dazzling displays, ingenious and breath-taking performance.
With athletes from more than 200 countries gathering in China to compete for honours and medals in the 28 sporting events, it promises to be an exciting and very competitive games.
As the athletes compete, strive and push themselves to the limits for glory in thier respectives sports and for their respectives countries witihn the next 15 days before the end of the Olympics, it is pertinent to note that whatever shade of medal (i.e. Gold, Silver or Bronze) they may win with the attendant joy and celebration, it is for a temporal glory.
Remember that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize. You also must run in such a way that you will win.- 1 Corinthians 9:24
While for all who believe and have put their faith in the Lord Jesus, there awaits an eternal crown of glory and a heavenly medal as they strive towards the mark of the high calling of God and run with perseverance, excitement and joy, the race set before them in Christ Jesus.
All athletes practice strict self-control. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.- 1 Corinthians 9:25
I look forward to an exciting Games and the best Olympics ever staged. This is in line with the Olympics motto: "Citius, Altius, Fortius," which is Latin for "Faster, Higher, Stronger".
