I guess as christians that are committed, dedicated and love the Lord, we are zealous and passionate about the things of God. We always seek one way or the other to give ourselves to the service of His Kingdom and to do His good works.
We rightly and commendably desire to serve in one capacity or the other in our respective Churches. We yearn and rightly so to be found available, ready and useful for the Master's work and purpose.
The disciples asked Jesus: "We want to perform God’s works, too. What should we do?"- John 6:28; and "Jesus told them, this is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent."- John 6:29
You will agree with me that zeal without knowledge could be dangerous. Jesus clearly showed us there that the primary work or assignment God demands from us, is to believe in Him- Jesus. To have faith in His word, His instructions, teachings, admonition and commandments. The foundation for any commendable, acceptable, good and great work in God Kingdom is faith in Him- Jesus Christ.
Jesus told His disciples "...anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works,"- John 14:12
The preceeding scripture clearly butresses the fact that our faith in Christ Jesus is the motivating
force and catalyst that would propels us from within. The force of faith in Jesus would empower, enable, drive and compel us to do the pleasing, praise-worthy, commendable, acceptable and indeed greater works of God.
"But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:"- John 1:12 (KJV)
To believe in Jesus Christ is our access to the power of God that we require to do the works of God. It is not by our pious-ness or how religious we are, neither is it by our regular attendance of Church meetings, nor committed involvement in activities (as important as they all are), but by believing in Him- Christ Jesus.
"And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God."- 1 John 5:5
God's intention is to establish His rule and reign on the earth through His people. To subdue every opposition, every evil and wickedness that networks the earth.
It is insightful and revealing to know that from creation the ultimate intention and work of God is to establish His Kingdom and Dominion on the earth. Dominion on the earth was the charge or assignment or rather still, the work that God intended for man to do on the earth
"And this is His command: to believe in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ,"- I John 3:23
Indeed it takes faith in Christ Jesus to do the works of God. Faith in Christ is the right platform to launch into all the good works that God has prepared for us before the foundation of the world. For without Him-Jesus we can do nothing.
Be blessed as your continue in the works of your heavenly Father through faith in His Son, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

I'll paint you a rainbow as a gift from me,
Then hang it from heaven for the whole world to see.
On a canvas of love I'll cover your fears,
With a soft brush I'll dry all your tears.
I'll paint you a rainbow with feelings so deep,
My stroke will be gentle, my touch you may keep.
On a palette of words I will tenderly blend,
Colorful thoughts with bright verses to send.
I'll paint you a rainbow in reds, blues and gold,
Stretched like loving arms ready to enfold.
And deep in the center of the most vibrant hue,
I'll etch from memory the essence of you.
I'll paint you a rainbow, a bridge to my heart,
So loneliness and pain can begin to depart.
Just look up at the sky when life hits a bend,
I painted a rainbow for YOU.
