It's celebration time again as Nigeria marks her 46th indepence anniversary from British rule. Exactly 46 years ago yesterday- October 1, a sovereign nation was born when the Union Jack was lowered in favour of the green white green Nigerian flag.
The hoisting of the Nigerian national flag was greeted which much, celebration, funfare, fireworks, pomp and pagentry as it marked the liberation of Nigeria from the colonial government.
Much of the joy, celebration and jubilation that engulfed the whole nation on Indepencence Day-October 1, 1960 was based on the great hope and expectation that at last Nigeria's destiny was set to blossom. That the nation was finally set to take off on a glorious flight of success and prosperity as it takes her destiny in her hands.
This has not really been the case 46 years after. Nigeria as a sovereign and independent country is yet to reach her massive potential as a blessed nation. The huge expectation and high hope that the independence brought are still waiting to be fulfilled.
But the good news is: The love and knowledge of God in the land is increasing, at an all time high, far much more than it was 46 years ago.
"Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance."- Psalm 33:12
Nigeria belongs to the LORD. And I believe that in my life time, we shall see Nigeria attain her huge potential; and all the hope and expectation that has hitherto been dashed shall be restored and fulfilled.
I pray that the LORD shall restore the years of the nation that the locust, caterpillar and devourer has eaten, devoured and wasted. May righteousness, justice, godliness, prosperity, success and the peace of God reign in the land.- Amen
"Pray for the peace of Jerusalem [Nigeria]: they shall prosper that love thee. Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces. For my brethren and companions' sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee."- Psalm 122:6-8 (Brackets, bold and underlined word: Mine)
HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY NIGERIA
Amen to that Olaitan.
