Teach us to number our days......

How time flies, it seems just like yesterday when I had my first post as a blogger, here I am today, a year and some days on in the blogging world. Time indeed waits for no man (or woman), it flies as swiftly as the twinkling of the eye; it is undoubtedly the greatest asset of all.
A wise man once said: 'The fool spends his time, but the wise and prudent invests his'.

The greatest challenge for us as sensible and reasonable people is how to make the most of our time, that is, making our time count, which in turn is making our life count. Speaking in a meeting recently, Keri Jones said: 'Never give your life to anything that is not worth your life.' That is absolutely right because your time is your life, and it is a priceless and irreplaceble asset.

A time recklessly spent may never be recovered, which may result in a wasted life, while a time wisely invested brings amazing rewards, not only for us but importantly for others, inlcuding people who will never get to see or meet us.

The Psalmist prayed: "Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom."- Psalm 90:12 (NIV)

This is the prayer of every prudent man, that the Lord will teach him how to make his days and life count by granting him a heart of wisdom. We need the wisdom of God to know his timings and seasons for our life, for there is indeed a time for everything under the sun. It takes the wisdom of God to always do the right thing at the right time. A wise man once said: 'Procrastination is the grave in which opportunity is buried'

Jesus said: 'I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.'- John 9:4 (KJV).

Jesus knew that his earthly mission was time limited, He was therefore able to fulfil His mission within the thirty three years that He lived as a man, and at the end He said 'it is finished.' Likewise should it be for us. Are we living our lives in such a way that at the point of our departure from this world, we can say we have fulfilled our course, we have finished our race?

The truth is we dont have all the time in this world, the days of our life here on earth are time limited, we therefore need to number our days so that we can make our journey in life a fruitful, impact-full and memorable one.

A man was once asked how he wished to be remembered when he is dead, and he replied by saying he does not want to be remembered for how long he lived, but how well he lived for others. He wanted his life to count; just like the bible recorded our great Patriarchs and Matriarchs of faith, who though long dead, yet speaks (See Hebrew 11).

"Making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.- Ephesians 5:16 (NIV)

Another wise man once admonished us that we should leave our footsteps in the sands of life. Remember, your time is your life, seek therefore to make the most of every moment that comes your way each day, give your time and life only to a worthy cause, because you only have this one life to live and to get it right. In the race and journey of life there is neither a replay nor a return match.

"But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, You are my God. My times are in your hands;" (Psalm 31: 15); O Lord, teach me to make the most of my days on earth. Amen
